Ivan Peries

Ivan Peries (1921-1988) was born near Colombo, Sri Lanka and was a founding member of the Colombo ‘43 Group. An important postcolonial artist, Peries’ subjects ranged from rural life to the shorelines. In 1946 Peries won a government scholarship to the St John’s Wood School of Art in London, where he studied for another four years. By the end of his career, Peries was considered to be very influential on Sri Lankan contemporary art.
